Mage emblem
Mages are the “spell casters” of Aion. Their primary goal is to destroy enemies by using magic spells. Up until their Ascension there is only one real choice on how to kill mobs; spells. After the Ascension they then have the choice of either going Sorcerer, which can nuke mobs with spells, or Spiritmaster, which relies on summons.
Much like the Rogues, Mages have very low defense but deal a great amount of damage to enemies. What brings the Mages up above them, however, is the ability to launch ranged attacks even at low levels. This helps somewhat compensate for their low defense by allowing them to toss out a few attacks before their enemies reach them. At the same time, however, their spells can be canceled by enemies fairly easy, leaving them vulnerable to being pummeled.
The Mages are forced to use only one type of armor; Cloth. This is the lowest defense possible, which puts them in a very delicate situation when it comes to having to tank the mobs (solo) or when pulling aggression of mobs (when grouped). Once the class is learned well, however, it is quite easy to battle enemy foes!
The high points of this class are :
- Great damage potential using spells
- The ability to attack enemies from a distance
The low points of them are :
- The lowest defense out of all of the classes
- Spells can be canceled by enemies
Pushing through this Mage class is significantly easier than Rogues, but still harder than the others. Much like with Rogues, however, keeping at it will yield great results.
The weapons of choice are Spellbooks and Orbs, both of which are used for magical damage rather than melee.
In solo combat, the Mages will rely on just dealing as many magical attacks as possible while only taking on one mob at a time. Taking on two is a sure-fire way to die, being that it doubles the chances of being canceled while casting.
When grouped, the risk of death goes down quite a bit because someone else is also dealing damage (and/or tanking), lowering the amount of time the mob lives.
Conclusion : Much like the Rogue classes, Mages have very low defense but are able to dish out huge amounts of damage. Thankfully they are able to use ranged attacks, allowing them to get in a hit or two before their enemies are within range of attacking them. At the same time, they can also be canceled once their enemy gets within range, potentially raising the possibility of death.

Priest emblem
The Priests are the predecessor to becoming a Cleric or a Chanter. This is the classification for these classes before doing the Ascension quest and choosing a class.
During playing as a Priest, players will start to gain a feel of what the Cleric and Chanter are like. There is a mixture of skills for both of these classes that are gained while leveling, to help assist in determining what class to choose.
This class is by far the fastest one to level to 10 and Ascend, solely because they are able to heal themselves in combat. Mix this with good attack power, and you have a solid killing machine!
Their positives are :
- Great damage dealing potential
- Good heals
- Semi-decent buffs
- Chain armor mastery
Their negatives are :
- They mostly rely on Smites
- Easily killed if not attentive
As stated above, their primary attack at this point is using smites on enemies. The issue with these is they are two second spells, and they can be canceled. Although this is true, they are still more efficient than the classes who are unable to heal, especially the rogue classes.
In solo combat their battle style will consist mainly of alternating between Smites and heals. This will help assist them in keeping their health up while killing enemies. When enemies get within range Priests have skills that will slow down enemy attack speed, lowering the amount of damage taken while in combat. This will be used after the first or second Smite. There are also the more subtle strategies and class secrets.
In group combat, their goal will be to heal allies while occasionally tossing out an attack or two, which will usually be a melee attack so they are able to conserve mana. The good thing about this is they are able to group with any class and still make them much more efficient at this point, not just tanks!
Conclusion : The Priests are by far the best classes in terms of leveling speed before level 10. They are able to somewhat tank, deal damage, and also heal themselves (and others). While playing one, players will gain an understanding of how both the Cleric and Chanter will be in combat, allowing them to better prepare them for the choice of which class to take after their Ascension. Along with this, they can play as an out-of-party healer and buffer for other players to assist them in leveling up in the newbie levels.

Aion uses a system where everyone starts out with four base classes. At level 10 players then get to specialize in their final class. The four base classes, warriors, scouts, priests and mages already decide the direction of the class. This classification translates directly to tank, melee damage dealer, healer and nuker. A warrior needs to decide between becoming a gladiator or a templar. For Priests the choices are chanter or cleric, while Mages get to pick between spiritmasters and sorcerers. Scouts can either head down the path of an assassin or go with becoming a ranger.
How well balanced the classes are, how unique their playstyles and strategies and the fun factor involved in each of them is a huge factor for any MMORPG. For Aion: The Tower of Eternity, it is crucial to keep the balance rate and so ongoing patches continue to tweak and modify the settings to keep players happy. There are plenty of online resources available on Aion Classes, so the sections below will focus on individual classes and provide you with additional advice on each of them.

Cleric Emblem
In this article, you’ll find a brief intro to the class but if you’re looking for more, then you might want to take a look at the this Cleric guide. Packed with unique strategies and detailed explanations on how to prepare yourself to survive in the faction war as a Cleric, the guide is recommended for every serious player. With class-specific leveling strategies, gear recommendations and money-making tips, the guide is rich with useful information for both Elyos and Asmodian alike.
Clerics are the supreme healing force in Aion. They do have a couple of buffs, but these are the ones obtained while leveling as a Priest. This class is relied upon primarily for their ability to heal players in a quick and efficient manner. At the same time, however, they are also able to solo quite well due to their ability to cast damaging spells and attacks on their enemies.
Some of their high points are as follows:
- Great healing power
- Ability to resurrect allied players
- Basic buffing abilities
- Ability to use Chain armor
As for their low points, there are the following:
- Heals can be canceled by enemy attacks
- Damage is a little low compared to the DPS classes
As you can see, their benefits outweigh their negatives. Nevertheless, enterpreneurs in the online gaming industry, sees this gap as an opportunity to offer solutions to close that gap with various Aion cleric-specific tools.
Going back the the class, although Clerics able to solo when necessary, they are much more efficient when put into a group with other players. If the group they are with does not need much healing, the Cleric will generally take the role of DPS to assist with the killing process. If the group does a great deal of healing, Clerics will be better off sitting on the back lines and just healing.
When looking at the Cleric’s abilities, they have a mixture between spells and melee damage abilities. The spells are called “smites” and can be canceled, whereas the melee abilities are unable to be canceled. The choice of attacks to use will greatly depend on what type of group the Cleric is in. If they are in a ranged group, they will want to use their smites. If they are in close-quarters and are playing the role of DPS, they will use melee attacks.
Conclusion: The Cleric is a great addition to any party, but can also be played as a solo character. Their heals, abilities to unleash attacks, and Chain armor all combine to boost their ability to survive in combat. In groups, they have the role of either just being a healer, being DPS, or being both! Because of this, different Clerics have different play-styles.

Chanter Emblem
In this articles, you’ll find a brief intro to the class but if you’re looking for more, then you might want to take a look at the this Chanter guide. Packed with unique strategies and detailed explanations on how to prepare yourself to survive in the faction war as a Chanter, the guide is recommended for every serious player. With class-specific leveling strategies, gear recommendations and money-making tips, the guide is rich with useful information for both Elyos and Asmodian alike.
The Chanter is the buffing class in Aion. Their primary goals in groups consist of just buffing and attacking, however they are also able to do healing when necessary. This can place them in a group as an “off-healer.” Their heals are not as strong as the Clerics, but they are better than nothing to a group who has no healer!
The Chanter class is seen as one of the best soloing classes. They deal a great deal of damage (mostly due to their buffs) and have the ability to heal themselves. Not only this, they are able to use Chain armor, which is just below Plate. Their issue, however, comes when their heals are constantly canceled by mobs or other players.
Their good aspects are :
- Great buffs (Run speed, defense, attack power, etc.)
- Decent heals (Not as strong as Clerics but still helpful)
- Chain armor mastery
- Many attack skills, although mostly melee
Their negatives are :
- Heals can be canceled
- Although they are able to heal, low defense puts them in a delicate situation
In play the Chanter will rarely be using their smiting abilities. Their melee attacks are much more efficient than spells, being that they will not fail. Along with his, melee abilities are used much quicker, dealing much more damage in a shorter period of time.
The biggest difference between group play and solo will come when there is not another healer present. The Chanter, when with a group who is very organized, can play the role of both buffer and healer, even without a Cleric nearby. The issue comes when there is a lot of damage being taken by players in the group because Chanters’ heals are not too strong.
Their weapon of choice is their staff, doing both normal melee hits and melee skills. During this period, there are skills that will decrease enemy attack speed, stun enemies, etc., which helps regardless as to if they are playing alone or with others.
Conclusion : The Chanter is like a hybrid healer and DPS class. Their buffs work on their entire group, enhancing everyone’s abilities. At the same time, they are able to heal themselves and allies, giving them a back-up healing position in groups. When playing solo, their survivability is very high as long as they are not pulling more than one mob at a time. If they pull more, their survival rate will start going down tremendously.
For more advanced class information, this is a recommended Chanter guide. Interested in exploring Atreia as another class, check out the other Aion guides available for the in-depth strategies to help you throughout your journey.
